Herring under Shuba salad is familiar to many people from the CIS. As a rule, this salad is a frequent guest at holidays. Based on historical summaries, Herring under Shuba appeared in 1917. This salad was a culinary protest against the capitalist system. All the ingredients in the salad were simple. Accordingly, these products could afford all the inhabitants of the new communist state.
The recipe was taken from Finnish cuisine. It was in Finland that salads with herring were often prepared. But, in the Soviet Union, the salad was reinterpreted, making it suitable for its population.
Now the salad retains its relevance. However, it is often prepared in a new way.
Ingredients for Herring under a fur coat:
- mayonnaise – 200 g;
- tomato paste – 35 g
- black pepper – a pinch;
- garlic – 3 cloves;
- herring fillet – pcs;
- onion – pcs.;
- potatoes – 2 pcs;
- carrots – pcs.;
- eggs – 3 pcs;
- beets – pcs.;
- dill – bundle.
Preparation of Herring under Shuba:
Mix in one bowl mayonnaise with tomato paste, black pepper. Rub garlic cloves into the mixture on small grating cutters, mix everything thoroughly.
Cut herring fillets and onions into small cubes, mix the components and dress with a spoonful of sauce. Put a layer of herring and onions on a plate.
Boiled in advance potatoes peeled and grated on a coarse grater. Boiled carrots are also rubbed on a coarse grater. Boil hard-boiled eggs, peel and grate them on a fine grater.
Mix potatoes, carrots and eggs together, dress with a couple of spoons of sauce, mix. Put a layer of vegetables on the fish layer.
Boil beets, peel and grate them on a coarse grater. Put the beet on the layer of vegetables, smear it with sauce.
Chop dill finely, sprinkle
it on the
top of the salad.
Instead of dill you can sprinkle the salad with chopped yolks. The salad does not need to soak in the refrigerator, it is served immediately to the table.
