Cabbage pies were one of the most common types of lunch and dinner in peasant families. The fact is that such pies were budget-friendly and hearty. They were cooked from a couple of ingredients, based on budget stuffing available in every vegetable garden.
Only wealthy peasants and landowners could afford to eat pies with meat. The rest of the people ate such pastries only on special occasions, such as weddings.
Now cabbage pies can easily be replaced by meat pies
.
But, many people prefer cabbage pastries because of the flavor of aromatic cabbage.
Ingredients for cabbage pie:
- Cabbage – 1 kg;
- Onion – 1 pc;
- Carrots – 1 pc;
- Eggs – 6 pcs;
- Oregano – 1 tsp;
- Dill – a bundle;
- Flour – 1 tbsp;
- Salt – ½ tsp.
Ingredients for the sauce:
- Walnuts – 2 tbsp;
- Garlic – 2 cloves;
- Apple cider vinegar – 1 tsp;
- Coriander – 1 tsp;
- Turmeric – 1/2 tsp;
- Sugar – 2 tsp;
- Water – 80 ml;
- Salt – ½ tsp.
Preparation of lazy cabbage pie:
Dice small onions, grate carrots on a coarse grater. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan, fry the onion until transparent.
Send carrots to the onion, fry the vegetables for a couple more minutes. Shinkuem not particularly small cabbage, put in the pan to the vegetables. Roast the cabbage for 15 minutes, stirring constantly.
Transfer the vegetable mixture to a deep bowl, sprinkle with salt and Oregano. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, add the chopped dill and flour.
Pour the egg mixture into the cabbage mixture and stir. Cut a circle out of parchment according to the diameter of the bottom of the pan. Cover the bottom of the pan with parchment, place the cabbage mixture on the surface and spread evenly.
Fry the pie on low heat under a lid for 3-4 minutes. At
this time prepare the sauce – chop nuts to a fine crumb, mix with coriander, turmeric, sugar and salt.

Turn the pie over to the second side using a flat plate. Remove the parchment from the bottom of the pan or pie plate.
Fry the pie similarly on the second side for 2-3 minutes.
It is recommended to serve the cabbage pie with walnut sauce.
The dish is more like a casserole, as 90% of the pie is cabbage.
