In ancient Greece, the cucumber was considered a vegetable that was not ripe. Greek botanists probably made this conclusion based on the color and taste of the cucumber. A watery vegetable seemed too useless for the Greeks to eat, as it had no fleshy flesh
. For this reason, the Greek word for cucumber is unripe
. It was not until some time later that mankind realized the full potential of the cucumber
.
Now this vegetable means freshness and gives dishes a special flavor note.
Let’s share a simple recipe for cucumber salad.
Ingredients for cucumber salad:
- Cucumber – pcs;
- Red onion – ½ pcs;
- Sour cream – tbsp;
- Wine vinegar – ½ tbsp;
- Sugar – ½ tsp;
- Dill – a bunch;
- Salt – ½ tsp.
Preparation of cucumber salad:
Peel the cucumber from the peel and cut into small thin circles. Put the cucumber
slices
in a sieve, salt and leave for 15 minutes.
In the meantime, cut the red onion into half rings. Pour water over the onions and let them infuse for 15 minutes.
To prepare the dressing, mix sour cream with sugar and wine vinegar. Shinkuem finely dill, pour into the dressing, stir.
Dry cucumber circles and onion half-rings in a towel

Put onions and cucumber in a salad bowl, dress with prepared sauce and mix.
To this salad you can add black pepper.
It turns out to be a great summer appetizer for shish kebab.
