People who lived in the Soviet Union will probably remember such a treat as khvorost. In resort towns, this type of pastry was constantly prepared and sold on the beach. Coming in the morning to sunbathe and swim you could smell the odor of this sweet dessert.
Now khvorost stopped cooking on a large scale. Sometimes in southern cities you can find bakeries selling khvorost. However, the ways of cooking this sweet product have changed.
In Soviet cookbooks you can find recipes for cooking khvorost
.
Therefore, we want to share with you one of the ways of cooking this southern sweet at home.
Ingredients for khvorost:
- kefir – 200 ml;
- flour – 450 g;
- eggs – pcs;
- vegetable oil – 2 tablespoons;
- sugar – 2 tbsp;
- salt – a pinch;
- baking soda – ½ tsp.
Preparation of pineapple:
Pour baking soda into kefir, mix the ingredients to get a reaction. Break an egg, pour sugar and salt into kefir, mix the ingredients.
Pour vegetable oil into kefir, sift in parts of flour. Knead elastic and not sticky dough
. Leave the dough under the foil for 10 minutes in the heat. Next, roll out the dough into a rectangular layer 1.5 cm thick. Remove any uneven edges from the dough.
Cut the rectangular dough into strips about 5 cm wide. Cut the strips of dough into elongated rhombuses. In the middle of each rhombus make a cut, where we put one of the elongated ends of the shape.
Fry the pineapple in a frying pan in plenty of vegetable oil. Bring the product to a golden color on both sides.
The resulting rhombics can be sprinkled with powdered sugar or drizzled with honey.
It turns out to be a good alternative to store-bought pastries and desserts.
