Arabic cuisine is famous for its pastries, which are diverse and rich in flavor. Here are some of the popular Arabic pastries:
Manakish is a flatbread made of yeast dough with olive oil and filled with a mixture of cheese, olives, zaatar (a mixture of herbs) and sometimes other ingredients.
Pita – unleavened bread baked in a special oven and has a “pocket” inside that can be filled with stuffing.
Sambusa – small triangular patties filled with meat, cheese or vegetables that are baked in a tandoor.
These types of pastries may vary by region and tradition. Let’s prepare a simple dessert pie for every day.
Ingredients:
- Milk – 300 ml;
- Sugar – 100 g;
- Butter – 150 g;
- Egg – 1 pc;
- Yeast – 1 tsp;
- Flour – 500 g;
- Walnuts – 300 g;
- Condensed milk – 150 ml.
Cooking the cake:
Mix sugar with milk, pour melted butter into it.
Gradually pour the flour
into the
milk
mixture,
knead a slightly sticky dough
.
Spread the dough in a 22×22 cm mold, spread it all over the bottom, cover it with cling film and leave it for 40 minutes.
Chop walnuts and sprinkle them
on the
top of the pie
.
Bake the pie at 170 degrees for 40 minutes, and then smear the top with condensed milk.
You get a sweet dessert pie for tea. Instead of walnuts you can use other nuts for sprinkling, but with walnuts the flavor is more intense.
