French-style meat is a popular dish that became iconic in Soviet cuisine and continues to take its place on holiday tables as well as in everyday cooking. Despite its name, this dish is not directly related to French cuisine, but rather a variation of traditional meat casseroles that can be found in different culinary traditions.

One hypothesis is that its recipe could have appeared in Russia in the 1960s and 1970s, when French cuisine gained popularity among gourmets, as well as in Soviet restaurants.
Whatever the case, however, the recipe was based on simple ingredients available in any household, which made it a favorite of many housewives.
Ingredients:
- Pork – 1 kg;
- Tomato sauce – 3 tbsp;
- Mustard – 1 tbsp;
- Mayonnaise – 3 tbsp;
- Cherry tomatoes – 8 pcs;
- Onion – 1 pc;
- Sour cream – 4 tbsp;
- Salt – ½ tsp;
- Hard cheese – 130 g;
- Provence herbs.
Preparation of French-style meat:
Cut the pork into small slices 1-2 cm thick. Lay out the steaks and lightly beat them
with
a special hammer.
Mix the steaks with mustard, tomato sauce, black pepper to taste, 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. Leave the pork to marinate for 6 hours.
Cut tomatoes into plates, finely chop onions. Place tomatoes and onions on each marinated steak. Separately mix sour cream with mayonnaise, provan herbs, black pepper, salt, rub 100 grams of cheese into the sauce.
Spread the sauce on the vegetable tops of the steaks.
Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top of the sauce, bake the meat at 180 degrees for 40 minutes.
It turns out a delicious dish, which is good for a festive dinner. French-style meat is considered an eternal classic for many families.
