Soviet pyshki: delicious and crispy. A simple recipe to make at home.

Pyshki are considered one of the most popular flour products invented in the Soviet Union. Pyshki resemble American doughnuts in shape. However, there are also many differences between pyshki and doughnuts. Pyshki are more porous and weightless than doughnuts. As a rule, American dessert is made of denser

dough

.

Doughnuts are not sweet in themselves, they are sweetened by the glaze that is sprinkled on top. Dumplings are originally sweet, they are most often sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Probably, powder as a decoration was chosen because of the shortage in the USSR.

Let’s tell you how to make Soviet dumplings at home.

Ingredients for pyshki:

  • Flour – 500 g;
  • Water – 310 g;
  • Salt – 5 g;
  • Sugar – 60 g;
  • Pressed yeast – 16 g;
  • Margarine – 30 g;
  • Egg – 20 g;
  • Vegetable oil – 900 g.

Preparation of puffballs:

Pour the flour onto the table and make a crater in the middle. Beat the egg in a separate bowl and pour half of it into the crater with warm water. Pour

salt, sugar and yeast

into the

same

bowl

and knead an elastic dough

.

Add soft margarine to the dough, keep kneading for 5-10 minutes.

Grease a container with vegetable oil, put the dough in it, cover with food film and leave it for 1.5 hours. Knead the dough and divide into pieces of 20-25 grams.

You can make larger dumplings, then the pieces should be 40-45 grams. It is better to knead the dough on an oiled table.

Form balls and leave for 10 minutes under a towel. Then make holes in the balls, leave the dumplings to rest for 10 minutes.
