Flatbread is the national dish of a large number of countries. Many people know about flatbread thanks to the Caucasus, Georgia and Armenia. However, these are not all countries where flatbreads are revered. This type of pastry is common in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries. It
is likely that flatbreads were relevant for nomadic peoples. As a rule, this product was not baked, but fried. This was convenient for nomads, since it was not necessary to take care of the construction of an oven.
Let’s tell you how to cook potato flatbread.
Ingredients for potato cakes:
- potatoes – 3 pcs;
- milk – 180 ml;
- salt – ½ tsp;
- sugar – ½ tsp;
- yeast – tsp;
- flour – 300 g.
Preparation of potato cakes:
Cut the peeled potatoes into large cubes and boil them until tender. Knead the potatoes to a mashed state, pour milk into it, stir.
Pour sugar, salt and yeast into the mashed potatoes and mix. Sift flour into the mashed potatoes, knead an elastic and soft dough. Coat the dough
with vegetable oil and leave it under cellophane for half an hour. Knead the dough on a table sprinkled with flour.
Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and shape the rolls.
Use your hands to make tortillas out of the koloboks, which we fry one by one in a frying pan with vegetable oil.
As soon as the cakes are golden on both sides, you can remove them from the heat.
After frying, it is worth smearing each tortilla with butter.
