Perhaps in American TV shows, sitcoms or movies you have seen the unusual tortilla with tomato filling – tacos. This simple Mexican dish is a national treasure of several countries. America thinks it was able to adopt this spicy and tart dish from a not-so-friendly nation.
In fact, it is the Mexicans who make the best tacos. This corn tortilla with fatty meat and tomato filling appeared long before Europeans came to the continent
. Although tacos are made in small tortillas, this dish is so hearty that you’ll be full in no time. We have a recipe similar to Mexican tacos. Only we cook this dish with potatoes and in pita bread.
Ingredients for potato tortillas:
- potatoes – 8 pcs;
- thin pita – 10 pieces;
- mushrooms – 300 g;
- salt – ½ tsp;
- onion – pcs;
- ground black pepper – a pinch.
Preparation of potato cakes:
Boil the potatoes until soft, turn them into mashed potatoes. Pour a little potato broth into the mashed potatoes, so that the consistency was a little liquid.
Cut a small diced onion, fry in a frying pan with vegetable oil until lightly golden. Cut cleaned
mushrooms
into small slices, add to the onions. Add the fried onions
and mushrooms to the mashed potatoes, salt the mixture and mix well.

Cut lavash into circles with a diameter of 10-15 cm. Put the stuffing on the semicircle, press the mashed potatoes with the second part of the pita.

Transfer the tortilla to a frying pan greased with vegetable oil. Fry the flatbread on both sides until browned.


If you are not satisfied with a lean recipe for tortillas, then instead of potato broth, you can add milk and butter to the mashed potatoes. Also, these flatbreads will turn out more flavorful if you use porcini mushrooms instead of mushrooms.
