Potato pies have become an important part of the culture in the CIS countries. They are associated with nostalgia for the past, namely for the villages. As a rule, potato pies were prepared by grandmothers.
But, unfortunately, nowadays it is difficult to find pies that would be cooked in an old village oven. Cooks even try to find recipes for dough that would be similar to what the village cooks used.
Most likely, recipes from the past are gone from our lives forever. All that remains is to find successful recipes for home baked goods, like these potato pies.
Ingredients for potato patties:
- cottage cheese – 250 g;
- eggs – 2 pcs;
- salt – ½ tsp;
- sugar – tbsp;
- sour cream – 3 tbsp;
- baking soda – ½ tsp;
- vegetable oil – 2 tbsp;
- flour – 300 g.
Ingredients for the filling:
- potatoes – 700 g;
- butter – 30 g;
- egg – pcs;
- milk – 50 ml;
- salt – ½ tsp;
- onion – pcs.
Preparation of patties with potatoes:
In a bowl with cottage cheese, break eggs, pour salt and granulated sugar. Add sour cream to the mixture, pour baking soda into it and mix thoroughly. Pour vegetable oil into the mixture and mix again.
Sift flour into the cottage cheese mixture, knead the dough with a spatula. Continue kneading the dough with your hands, leave it for 10 minutes under cellophane.
For the filling, boil the peeled potatoes, then mashed potato them to a puree. Break an egg into the mashed potatoes, pour in milk, salt and mix all the ingredients.

Fry it in a frying pan in a small amount of oil. Put the onions into the mashed potatoes and mix.
Divide the dough into 12 equal parts. Shape rolls, which we roll out into rounds. Put a tablespoon of stuffing in each layer, pinch the opposite edges.
Place the pie with the seam down and press down slightly with your hand.
In a frying pan in hot vegetable oil fry the patties on both sides until golden. Turn the patties several times during the frying process.
Do not forget to prepare a paper towel. You can place the hot patties on it so that the excess oil is absorbed into the paper.
