Flour cakes are one of the oldest types of bakery products, which has a centuries-old history and distribution in different cultures of the world. These simple, but at the same time tasty products have become the basis of the diet of many peoples. Flatbreads are typically made from flour, water and salt, and can be baked or cooked over an open fire, which gives them a unique flavor and aroma.
Historically, however, flour flatbreads have been used as everyday bread in a number of countries. In India, for example, such types as roti and naan, which are cooked in a special pan – tawa, or in a tandoor, are widely known. In Arab countries lavash and pita are popular, which are often used as a wrapper for meat and vegetables. In Russia, traditionally baked flatbreads, such as korzhi or kulebyaki, which are prepared on the basis of rye or wheat flour.
Ingredients:
- Flour – 300 g;
- Salt – 1 tsp;
- Sugar – 1 tsp;
- Water – 650 g;
- Vegetable oil.
Preparation of flour tortillas:
Sift flour, mix with salt and sugar. In a pan bring water to a boil, pour the flour and knead the dough.
Leave the dough in a bowl to cool slightly, and then knead, gradually adding a little flour. Knead the dough with your hands on a work surface for 8-10 minutes.
Then put the dough under cellophane and leave it warm for 10 minutes. Divide the dough into 2 parts, and then each part into 5 more parts, form the
rolls
.
Sprinkle the table with flour and roll out each roll into a flatbread with a diameter of 15 cm and a thickness of 1-2 mm. Place the flatbread in a frying pan with hot vegetable oil so that it floats.
Fry the flatbread on both sides until browned, periodically sprinkling the top with hot oil.
You get simple delicious flatbreads from the simplest ingredients. They are great as bread for soups and other dishes.
