Soviet people learned about pizza around 1980. Probably the Olympics played a big role in the new culinary knowledge. Then in some cafes of the capital you could buy a fragrant Italian pizza.
In addition to restaurant pizzas, in the USSR housewives began to bake this dish themselves. But, since the exact recipe for women did not have, pizza was prepared in a very peculiar way. The dough was not thin, and as toppings could be different ingredients that are not typical for pizza.
Let’s make homemade pizza on puffy dough, as from the USSR.
Ingredients of dough for pizza “Family”:
- flour – 400 g;
- water – 250 ml;
- salt – ½ tsp;
- sugar – tsp;
- pressed yeast – 18 g;
- vegetable oil – 2 tbsp.
Ingredients of pizza toppings:
- sauce – 5 tbsp;
- sausage – 300 g;
- cheese – 300 g;
- onion – ½ pcs;
- sweet pepper – ½ pcs;
- olives – 6 pcs;
- mushrooms – 6 pcs.
Preparation of pizza “Family”:
In a bowl with warm water pour yeast and sugar, dissolving the grit. To the yeast liquid pour salt, pour vegetable oil, mix.
Then sift flour into the water, knead a non-sticky lump of dough

Leave the dough under a film for the time while the filling is being prepared.
Cut sausage, mushrooms and sweet peppers into thin slices, cut onions and olives in half rings. Grate
cheese on a fine grater
.
Knead the dough and roll out into a large layer equal to the area of the baking tray
. Place the dough on a baking tray lined with parchment. Lubricate the layer with tomato sauce, lay out first the sausage and mushrooms, then onions, peppers and olives.
On the surface of the future pizza create a layer of cheese.
Bake the pizza at 230 degrees in the oven for about 18 minutes.
You get a delicious homemade pizza on a puffy dough. This is a good substitute for store-bought frozen pizza.
