Capelin is one of my favorite fish.
I used to always buy capelin and fry it – in a frying pan, in the oven or on the grill. I
love capelin in fried form
. But, excuse me, buying capelin for 420 rubles per kilogram is nonsense
. And so, at first I was very upset, as I can no longer afford capelin in fried form, but I was able to find a fish that is still as cheap, and its taste is almost identical – fried capelin.
In the past, this fish was bought exclusively to feed domestic cats, and
when I first bought it, my mother also said that this fish was for feeding cats.
Maybe that’s why it hasn’t gone up in price, because people have this stereotype in their heads
. However, in terms of taste, this fish is the same as fried capelin. They used to be in the same price range, but last year capelin sharply increased in price, and the cost of this fish remained at the same level.
And, if the price has risen on it, then only slightly.
And I’m talking about a strange fish called PUTASSA
.

I fry poutassu in the same way as capelin, it turns out just as tasty.
Ingredients
- Poutassu fish – 1 kg;
- Flour – 1/2 cup;
- Salt – to taste;
- Black pepper – to taste;
- Vegetable oil – for frying.
Step-by-step preparation
Clean the fish, gut it, cut off the head and tail. Dry with paper towels.

Pour flour, salt and pepper into a clean and dry plastic bag. I’ve been breading fish in a bag for a long time now.
You can add some seasonings
and
spices to your taste.

Put the prepared fish in a bag.
Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat it to high temperature.

Place alternately fish in a single layer in the skillet and fry on both sides until golden crispy.

And the most important thing is that it is NOT expensive and is not worse than the suddenly risen price of capelin.
Have you ever eaten fried whiting?
