Turkish flatbread with minced
meat
, popularly known as börek or pideh, is one of the most popular dishes in Turkish cuisine.
These flavorful and hearty flatbreads are a combination of thin dough and rich, tasty fillings, usually consisting of meat, vegetables and a variety of spices.
Their roots go deep into history, and they have become an integral part of the dietary routine of Turks and many other peoples living in and around Turkey.
Cooking Turkish flatbread is not only a cooking process, but a whole tradition passed down from generation to generation.
Let’s tell you how to create delicious flatbreads with minced meat at home
Ingredients:
- Potatoes – 400 g;
- Potato broth – 200 ml;
- Sugar – 1 tbsp;
- Salt – 1 tsp;
- Yeast – 12 g;
- Flour – 600 g;
- Vegetable oil – 20 ml;
- Onion – 2 pcs;
- Stuffing – 200 g;
- Hot water – 20 ml.
Preparation of tortillas with minced meat:
Peeled potatoes cut into small pieces and boil until ready. Then knead the potatoes into mashed potatoes, pour salt, sugar and yeast to it, pour the broth
. Mix the ingredients and pour the flour, knead a soft homogeneous dough
.
Pour vegetable oil into the dough, keep kneading and leave under a lid for 40 minutes.
Grate onion, mix with minced meat, water and salt. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts, roll out with your hands into thick, large tortillas with a diameter of 15 cm.
Put an equal amount of stuffing on the tortillas and seal it inside the dough.
Form thinner and larger cakes of 17 cm in diameter with the filling inside, sprinkle them with flour.
Place a couple of tortillas on a baking tray lined with parchment and bake at 160 degrees for 40 minutes. Bake the remaining tortillas in the same way.
After cooking, brush the tortillas with vegetable oil. These are delicious and very hearty Turkish flatbreads on potato dough.
