One of the most obvious differences between a pie and pastries is the scale of the dish. A pie is a pastry with a large amount of filling inseparable from the dough. Pies have a more simplified shape and are served in portions. Typically, pies have less filling than larger pies. Also, many people say that it is more difficult to cook small pies, because you need to pay attention to each portion.
In ancient times, cooking small pies was more profitable, because it turns out to feed all the members of a large family. Now families are not so large, so a couple of 3-4 people can be satisfied with a large pie. Let’s prepare a pie with chicken in a frying pan.
Ingredients for chicken pie dough:
- Flour – 300 g;
- Eggs – 2 pcs;
- Kefir 2,5% – 500 ml;
- Salt – 1 tsp;
- Soda – 1 tsp;
- Vegetable oil – 3 tbsp.
Ingredients for stuffing:
- Chicken fillet – 400 g;
- Onion – 1 pc;
- Butter – 40 g;
- Olives – 60 g;
- Cilantro – a couple of sprigs;
- Hard cheese – 50 g;
- Italian herbs – 1 tsp;
- Salt – ½ tsp.
Preparation of chicken pie:
Cut the chicken into small pieces and then the onion. In a skillet melt butter and fry the meat until cooked. Pour the onions to the chicken meat, mix them together.
Pour the Italian herbs to the chicken. Cut olives into slices, chop cilantro, add to the stuffing
, mix. In a separate bowl break eggs, pour kefir and mix thoroughly

Pour baking soda and salt into the mixture and mix again.
Pour vegetable oil into the kefir, pour the flour into the mixture and knead a thick homogeneous dough. Cover the pan with parchment, pour the dough onto the surface and spread it evenly.
Place the filling on the dough, press it in slightly

Roast the pie on medium heat for 30 minutes under a lid and parchment.
Then carefully turn the pie over to the other side using a cutting board.
Roast the pie for about 7 minutes and then turn it back over. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater and put it on top of the pie
. Cover the pie with the lid and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
The end result is a simple delicious chicken pie. You don’t even need to preheat the oven for this recipe.
