The history of cucumbers dates back several millennia. The homeland of cucumbers is considered to be India, where their wild relatives are still found.
The Bible mentions that cucumbers were grown in ancient Egypt. Cucumbers came to Europe thanks to the conquest of southeast Asia by the ancient Greeks. The Greeks appreciated the useful properties of cucumbers and began to actively cultivate them.
From Greece, cucumbers spread throughout the Mediterranean. Initially, cucumbers were food for the privileged classes. Later they spread to the common people. Today, cucumbers are grown all over the world and have become a familiar and accessible product. Let’s prepare an uncomplicated cucumber salad.
Ingredients:
- Cucumbers – 300 g;
- Salt – 1/3 tsp;
- Garlic – 2 cloves;
- Hot pepper – a pinch;
- Sesame – 1 tsp;
- Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp;
- Sugar – 1/2 tsp;
- Apple cider vinegar – 1/2 tsp;
- Soy sauce – 1 tsp;
- Green onions – a bunch.
Preparation of cucumber salad:
Cross peel the cucumbers from the peel, cut lengthwise in two. Remove the seeds from the cucumbers, cut into small cubes and salt.
Leave the cucumbers in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. In the meantime, mince garlic finely, mix it with hot pepper and sesame seeds
. Heat vegetable oil and pour garlic mixture over it.
Pour sugar, apple cider vinegar and soy sauce into the dressing, stir. Shred the green onions, remove excess moisture from the cucumbers with a paper towel
. Mix the cucumbers and onions, dress with the garlic, oil and sauce mixture, stir.
This is an unusual, yet budget-friendly salad.
You can remove the hot pepper from the recipe, if you do not like spicy dishes.
