It can be incredibly difficult to find baked goods that do not contain ingredients of animal origin. Fasting people and vegetarians face this problem all the time. It can be hard to stick to your beliefs when there are plenty of buns and pies with vegetable fillings, but milk and eggs in the dough.
In Europe, there are special stores with vegetarian food. In addition to cereals and pasta, the stores offer visitors bread without animal products, vegetable milk.
However, in our country, such stores are not common. Therefore, let’s make vegetarian and Lenten flatbread without eggs and milk.
Ingredients for Lenten flatbreads:
- flour – 600 g;
- dry yeast – a tbsp;
- water – 400 ml;
- vegetable oil – tbsp;
- honey – tsp;
- salt – tsp.
Preparation of lean flatbreads:
In warm water you need to dilute yeast and honey, mix the components until completely dissolved.
With the second part
of the flour
add salt and vegetable oil to the dough
.
Knead the dough with your hands until it becomes soft and pliable.
Transfer the dough into a deep bowl, cover with cling film and leave it warm for 10 minutes. Then knead the sticky dough again, cover it with clingfilm and leave it to rise for an hour. Knead
the dough after it has risen
.
Pinch off small lumps from the lump. Cover them with cellophane and let them stay warm for 5 minutes.
While the lumps are rising, heat a lot of oil in a frying pan. Using your hands, mold the koloboks into flatbreads almost to the diameter of the frying pan. Fry the tortillas in the oil on medium heat until golden on both sides.
This way you get lean and vegetarian flatbreads without animal ingredients.
They can be combined with any dish, such as avocado pasta or soups.
