Tomatoes appeared in Europe thanks to Christopher Columbus. He brought this strange plant from Western India. Tomatoes began to spread throughout the European part of the continent
. The vegetable began to be cultivated in the 16th century. Many people did not understand how this berry could be eaten, so they mostly planted tomatoes in gardens for beauty.
After a few centuries, tomatoes became an integral part of many dishes. In the XIX century, tomatoes were called “apples of love”.
Let’s prepare a simple salad with tomatoes for every day.
Ingredients for tomato salad:
- Tomatoes – kg;
- Sweet pepper – pcs;
- Onion – pcs.;
- Garlic – 3 cloves;
- Dill – bundle;
- Vegetable oil – 100 ml;
- Apple cider vinegar – 2 tbsp;
- Salt – tsp;
- Sugar – 1/2 tsp;
- Basil – tsp.
Preparation of tomato salad:
Cut tomatoes into large slices, cut onions into small cubes. In a separate bowl combine vegetable oil with apple
cider
vinegar, salt and sugar.
Press garlic cloves through the press and add to the mixture of oil and vinegar
.
Chop the dill finely and put ½ of it into the baking dish along with the basil. Put some of the onion and tomato slices on the bottom of the mold.
Cut the peeled sweet pepper into medium sized pieces, put some of them in the onion and tomato mixture. Pour ½ of the marinade over the vegetables, then place the second layer of onions, tomatoes and peppers.
Pour the rest of the marinade over the vegetable layer, cover tightly with a lid. Leave the salad for an hour in the refrigerator, and then mix thoroughly.
It turns out to be an uncomplicated salad of several components. It can be considered dietary, because there is not even mayonnaise in the composition.
