Low-salted mackerel is a delicious and healthy delicacy that will appeal to many people. As a rule, such fish is well combined with fried or boiled potatoes, as well as salads based on cucumbers and tomatoes. However, low-salted mackerel can also be served with ordinary rye bread. It is worth drying the bread slightly in advance, so the appetizer will feel even tastier.
In low-salted mackerel is quite a lot of useful substances. For example, the fish is rich in Omega-3 acids. It contains quite a lot of protein, which helps to satiate the body for a long time.
Fish is easily digested due to the moderate fat content. The meat remains tender for a long time, so mackerel can be stored for a long time – up to 5 days.
Such fish can be prepared for holidays or for lunch and dinner. It is suitable for preparing salads or as a cold appetizer for a celebration.
Ingredients:
- Mackerel fillet – 2 pcs;
- Vegetable oil – 80 ml;
- Salt – 3 tsp;
- Sugar – 1 tsp;
- Black pea pepper mixture – 1 tsp;
- Coriander – ½ tsp;
- Hot pepper – ½ tsp;
- Laurel leaf – 3 pcs;
- Onion – 3 pcs;
- Dried garlic – 1 tsp.
Ingredients for marinade #1:
- Lemon juice – 2 tbsp;
- Apple cider vinegar – 1 tbsp.
Ingredients for marinade #2:
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp.
Preparation of low-salted mackerel:
To cut mackerel into fillets without spine – cut off the tail, make an oblique cut under the front fin on both sides. Place the knife along the ridge on one side, closer to the head.
Run the blade along the ridge to the tail. Make a second cut parallel to the first. With your fingers, remove the backbone along with the innards from the fillet.

Thoroughly rinse the fillet under running water and cut into portioned pieces. Lightly heat vegetable oil, mix with peppercorns, coriander, hot pepper and crushed bay leaves.
Separately mix salt and sugar, pour lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, stir.
For the second marinade, no apple cider vinegar is added to the total mixture.
Pour the lemon mixture into the vegetable oil, pour the marinade over the mackerel.

Cut the onion
into
half rings, crumple it slightly.
In a jar put in layers onions and mackerel. Pour the rest of the marinade, cover with a lid and leave for 1 day.

Both marinades are made quickly and give the mackerel a special rich flavor.
