Pancakes are an ancient Slavic dish that is closely associated with paganism. In the past, the Eastern Slavs worshipped their pagan idols. This was done so that the harvest, crops, livestock and other activities of the peoples were successful. Mostly the worship was carried out in the spring. Hence came the holiday of Pancake
Day. On Pancake Day people cooked thin flour cakes – pancakes. There is an assumption that the word pancake came from the ancient “mlin”, that is, butter.
After the adoption of Christianity, pancakes did not disappear from people’s tables. On the contrary, took a religious not pagan coloring. Let’s tell about thin ruddy pancakes.
Ingredients for pancakes:
- Eggs – 2 pcs;
- Flour – 170 g;
- Water – 250 ml;
- Milk – 250 ml;
- Salt – ½ tsp;
- Sugar – 1 tbsp;
- Vegetable oil – 10 ml.
Preparation of pancakes:
Beat in a separate bowl the eggs with salt and sugar. In another bowl mix flour with water. Add the liquid to the flour in batches gradually.
Add the egg mixture and vegetable oil to the batter and mix thoroughly. Pour the milk into the batter and continue kneading the liquid pancake batter.
Lightly grease the frying pan with vegetable oil and pour a ladle of batter onto the surface.
Fry the pancakes on both sides until lightly browned.
As a result, we have thin delicious pancakes. They are served with sour cream, condensed milk and jam.
