How have salads managed to become a must-have dish at almost any celebration? Think about it, be it New Year’s Eve, Birthday, Anniversary – there are always salads at a festive dinner. This dish accompanies us almost always.
Probably, people have had a love for festive salads since ancient times. From the notes of archeologists we can learn that the first salads of greens decorated the tables of nobles in Rome. Basically, salads were decoration, they even added flowers. But, then salads began to be used as food, as well as other viands.
Let us give you a recipe for making a royal salad.
Ingredients for “Czar’s Salad”:
- onions – pcs;
- water – 200 ml;
- vinegar 9% – 2 tsp;
- sugar – 3 tsp;
- boiled potatoes – 3 pcs;
- mayonnaise – 200 g;
- herring – 2 fillets;
- boiled eggs – 5 pcs;
- green onions – a bundle;
- cheese – 100 g;
- pickled cucumber – pcs.
Preparation of “Tsar salad”:
Dice the onion into small cubes, pour water. Pour vinegar into the water, pour sugar, marinate onions for 10 minutes.
Peeled potatoes shredded on large grater teeth into a ring to assemble the salad.
Lubricate the potato layer with mayonnaise

Cut small pieces of herring, put on the onion layer. Lubricate the herring with mayonnaise.
Separate eggs into yolks and whites. Rub the whites on a grater, put them on the layer of herring.

Grate cheese and pickled cucumber finely, add a tablespoon of mayonnaise and mix. Cover the top of the salad with a cheese cap.
Grind yolks on small sharps of grater, sprinkle this shavings over the salad.
Cover the salad with food film and put it in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
This salad turns out festive hearty and juicy.
It slightly resembles herring under a fur coat, but without beets.
