No mixer, no eggs or milk. Honey dippers: moist inside, fragrant and delicious

Not everyone will now be able to remember the existence of such a type of pastry as kovrizhka. This is a rather ancient dessert of our traditional cuisine.

A kovrizhka is a tall, yet flat gingerbread. It can consist of several layers, soaked in some kind of filling. The name “kovrizhka” comes from the root “kovrig”, that is, bread.

Baking first began to be mentioned in sources from the IX century. Kovrizhki were made mainly of flour and honey. As a filling, berry juices were used.

We will try to properly prepare this ancient type of gingerbread.

Ingredients for honey dumplings:

  • sugar – 200 g;
  • salt – a pinch;
  • honey – 3 tbsp;
  • cloves – a pinch;
  • water – 250 ml;
  • cardamom – ½ tsp;
  • flour – 320 g;
  • ginger – ½ tsp;
  • vegetable oil – 125 g;
  • cinnamon – ½ tsp;
  • nuts – 125 g;
  • baking soda – tsp;
  • cocoa – 2 tbsp.

Preparation of honey cakes:

In a saucepan pour water, mix with vegetable oil, honey and granulated sugar. On low heat, melt sugar in the liquid, do not bring the mass to a boil.

Sift baking soda into the liquid, mix the ingredients. In a separate bowl combine cocoa with flour, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves and salt.

To the liquid mixture, sift the bulk mixture in batches and knead the dough. To the obtained homogeneous liquid dough pour the nuts, mix again.

Cover the mold with parchment, move the dough into it, spread it evenly on the surface.

Bake kovrizhka half an hour in the oven at 180 degrees.
