Salad, as a separate dish, appeared in human gastronomic culture about 2500 years ago. It was probably invented in Greece or Rome. However, this dish is also glimpsed in the kitchens of the Egyptians. Salad dressing was also known from Mesopotamian and Sumerian sources. So, salad was a fairly common dish in antiquity.

At the same time, as recipes from antiquity show, salads were made of greens and onions. That is, neither cucumbers, tomatoes, nor beets were not added to the dish.

This oversight of the ancients was corrected only in the XIX century. Let’s tell you how to prepare a delicious salad Royal.

Ingredients for Royal salad:

  • baked beets – pcs;
  • boiled beef – 700 g;
  • onion – 1 pc;
  • canned green peas – 150 g;
  • pickled cucumber – 4 pcs;
  • mayonnaise – 4 tbsp;
  • salt – ½ tsp.

Ingredients for the marinade:

  • water – 100 ml;
  • vinegar – 3 tbsp;
  • sugar – tsp.

Preparation of Royal salad:

Cut onions into half-rings, lay them out in a deep bowl. Pour vinegar and water into a bowl, pour sugar and mix thoroughly. Leave the onion to marinate for 10-15 minutes.

Boiled beef and baked beets cut into small strips. Similarly cut pickles. Combine the ingredients in a salad bowl.

Get rid of the onion from the marinade, and peas from the liquid, put them in the salad. Salt, dress the dish with mayonnaise and mix well.
