Sandy braids are one of the types of baked goods that are characterized by a special shape and texture. They can be made from different types of dough, but most often sand dough is used.
Such dough turns out crumbly and tender thanks to a large amount of butter or margarine

Sand dough is characterized by a high fat content (20-30%), it is pliable, holds its shape well and can be rolled out into thin sheets 3 to 8 mm thick. The
shape of sand dough can vary depending on the region and traditions. For example, in some countries they may be shaped like a pigtail or spiral, while in others they may have a simpler shape.
Let’s bake simple sand dumplings with jam
.
Ingredients:
- butter – 100 g;
- sugar – 80 g;
- sour cream 30% – 100 g;
- egg – 1 pc;
- flour – 320 g;
- baking soda – 1/2 tsp.
- black currant jam – 350 g.
Preparation of sandy braids with jam:
Beat together butter and sugar with a mixer for 3-4 minutes. Break an egg into the mixture, put sour cream and mix.
Combine flour and baking soda, sift and knead the dough first with a spatula, then with your hands. Divide the soft and not sticky dough, ⅓ of the
dough
is set aside.
Roll out most of the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of 5-6 mm. Divide the dough into 2 strips of 10 cm each, trim the edges and place the
strips on a baking tray lined with parchment
.
Roll out a small lump of dough into a 3-4 mm thick layer, divide into strips 1.5-2 cm thick.
Put jam on the wide strips, smear the edges of the strips with beaten egg.

Lay out thin strips in a pattern, cut off the excess edges, press the ends to the main layer of dough. Brush
the top of the braid with beaten egg
.
Bake the pletenki at 200 degrees for 20 minutes.

After cooking, you can sprinkle powdered sugar over the pletenki. This way you get a sweet dessert, which is not ashamed to serve for tea.
