Shepherd’s Pie, also known as “shaver” or in some regions as “shepherd’s pie,” is a hearty dish consisting of minced meat, vegetables and mashed potatoes baked under a delicious crust

. An important part of the history of Shepherd’s Pie is the tradition of farming and the shepherd’s way of life. Originally, the dish was made from leftover meat and vegetables, avoiding food waste and providing a nutritious meal for the family.

Ingredients:

  • potatoes – 450 g;
  • minced chicken – 650 g;
  • eggs – 2 pcs;
  • garlic – 2 cloves;
  • tomato – 1 pc;
  • salt;
  • pepper;
  • sweet ground paprika.

Ingredients for the filling:

  • vegetable oil – 2 tbsp;
  • flour – 20 g;
  • milk – 200 ml;
  • mayonnaise – 50 g;
  • egg – 1 pc;
  • salt – a pinch.

Preparation of “Shepherd’s pie”:

Peeled potatoes rub on a coarse grater and squeeze from excess liquid, transfer to a separate bowl, salt.

Break an egg to the potatoes and mix.

In a separate bowl, mix minced meat with egg, salt, pepper and sweet ground paprika

Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil, put potatoes on the bottom, tamp them down.

For the filling, warm the flour in a saucepan with vegetable oil and then pour the milk into it. Bring the mixture to thickening, stirring constantly.

Then in a bowl with mayonnaise beat an egg and stir, gradually pour in the milk mixture. Salt the filling and put it on top of the pie.

Bake the pie at 180 degrees for 40 minutes. After 10-20 minutes you can cover the top of the pie with foil.
