Draniki is one of the most popular dishes of Belarusian cuisine. However, Poles believe that their recipe for draaniki is more relevant and tasty than the version from Belarus. How do these types of draniki differ?
First, Belarusian draniki are prepared from raw potatoes, preferably young. Polish ones are used with boiled root vegetables.
Secondly, the variant from Belarus is prepared without adding flour. There are recipes for cooking potato fritters even without eggs. In Poland, they make draniki with the addition of both ingredients.
We are accustomed to cooking Belarusian draniki

They turn out more crispy, especially if you add mushroom sauce.
Ingredients for draniki with mushroom sauce:
- onion – 2 pieces;
- egg – pcs;
- mushrooms – 400 g;
- flour – 2.5 tablespoons;
- cream – 200 ml;
- potatoes – 450 g;
- salt – ½ tsp.
Preparation of draniki with mushroom sauce:
Cut the onion into small cubes, fry in vegetable oil until golden. Clean the mushrooms and cut into thin slices.
Transfer the fried onions to a separate container, move the mushrooms to the frying pan. Fry the mushrooms, evaporate all the liquid, pour ½ spoon of flour into the pan.

Add golden onions and cream to the fried mushrooms, bring the sauce to thicken over low heat. Shred the peeled onion and potatoes with a large grater.
Add flour, egg and salt to the potato mixture, mix until homogeneous.

Form the draaniki in a frying pan, fry for a couple of minutes in vegetable oil on both sides until browned.


Draniki with mushroom sauce is a great dinner option. You can also prepare the dish for an appetizer on a warm family evening.
