Herring under Shuba is the ambassador of New Year’s celebrations. This salad is prepared not only for New Year’s Eve, but also for other celebrations. But, most often the salad can be seen exactly at the New Year’s holiday dinner.
This dish became a traditional holiday dish in Soviet times.
The first recipe for Her

created in 1917-1918 for workers. Then the salad began to be modernized. New products were added, which were not previously in the original recipe.
Ordinary Herring under Shuba – will not surprise guests. If you serve the salad in an original way, it will be a different matter.
Ingredients for Herring under Shuba:
- Herring fillet – 300 g;
- Potatoes – 300 g;
- Carrots – 300 g;
- Beet – 300 g;
- Onion – 80 g;
- Egg – 5 pcs;
- Mayonnaise – 300 g;
- Salt – 8 g.
Ingredients for jelly:
- Beets – 100 g;
- Gelatin – 30 g;
- Water – 500 g;
- Salt – 5 g.
Preparation of Herring under Shuba:
Grease carrots, potatoes and beets with vegetable oil, separately seal the vegetables in foil and bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 35-50 minutes.
Boil hard-boiled eggs for 8-10 minutes
. While the vegetables and eggs are cooling, remove the bones and black film from the herring. Check the vegetables for readiness can be checked with a toothpick, it should go into each vegetable without problems.
Clean all the vegetables, eggs, remove the film from the herring

Pour gelatin with water. At this time, grate all the vegetables and eggs on a coarse grater. One egg is left, 100 beets are put aside in a separate bowl.

In a saucepan boil water, add the rest of the beets to the boiling water. Let the water cool slightly, add gelatin and stir until it dissolves. Strain the gelatin through a sieve, get rid of the beet pulp
. Cut the remaining egg into round plates, cut the herring into pieces. We lay the plates and pieces of products on top of the salad.
Remove the cooking ring of the salad, cover with a ring of larger diameter.
Seal the outer edges of the ring with scotch tape. Pour the jelly on the salad, leave in the refrigerator until set for an hour.
