Flatbreads are a popular type of bread that has a centuries-old history. Different countries have their own traditional flatbreads. Tandyr flatbread is a national dish of the peoples of the Caucasus, Central Asia and India. It is traditionally baked in a tandyr – a clay oven in the shape of a jug. Lavash – a flatbread made of wheat flour, common among the peoples of the Caucasus and the Middle East.
Focaccia – an Italian wheat flatbread made of various types of dough. Tortilla is a thin flatbread from Spain that is cooked in olive oil with potatoes, eggs and onions.
There are many different kinds of flatbread. Let’s make a classic tortilla at home.
Ingredients:
- flour – 300 g;
- water – 100 ml;
- boiling water – 100 ml;
- salt – ½ tsp;
- sugar – a pinch;
- green onion – bundle;
- butter – 20 g.
Preparation of tortillas:
Divide the dough into two equal parts, pour cold water into one of the parts, knead slightly. Pour salt and sugar into the boiling water, mix and pour into the second part of the flour. Knead
the dough lightly on the boiling water and then combine with the second lump.
Knead
the dough with your hands on the table for 2-3 minutes.
Chop the green onions finely. Divide the dough into 3 parts, roll each part into a thin round layer.
Sprinkle onions on the tops of the tortillas and roll each one into a roll.
Roll all the rolls into snails.
Roll each snail into a thinner
flatbread. Fry each flatbread in a frying pan in vegetable oil until browned.
You can serve these tortillas with any soup.
