Chakhokhbili is a national Georgian dish that is traditionally made of chicken. However, nothing prevents us from adapting the recipe to our preferences and using turkey instead of chicken.
Turkey chakhokhbili turns out very tasty and flavorful. The dish can be prepared for lunch or dinner for the whole family. It goes well with any garnish, for example, with mashed potatoes, rice or pasta.
Let’s tell you how to cook turkey chakhokhbili with an interesting sauce.
Ingredients:
- Turkey shank – 1.2 kg;
- Onions – 2 pcs;
- Tomatoes – 6 pcs;
- Garlic – 3 cloves;
- Butter – 30 g;
- Paprika – 1 tsp;
- Turmeric – ½ tsp;
- Dried basil – 1 tsp;
- Sugar – 1 tsp;
- Salt – ½ tsp;
- Cilantro – a few sprigs.
Preparation of turkey chakhokhbili:
In a skillet on a mixture of butter and vegetable oil fry turkey shanks. On high heat fry the shanks until golden on all sides.
Chop onion and garlic, fry in the meat oil until transparent.
Add
turmeric and paprika to the onions and garlic and mix.
Cut tomatoes into small slices and add them to the onions
.
Salt and sprinkle with sugar vegetable mass, stew under a lid on low heat for 10 minutes.
Then pour to the vegetables dry basil, black pepper to taste.
Put the turkey to the vegetable mixture, stew on low heat under a lid on one side for 20 minutes, on the other side for 15 minutes.
Sprinkle the finished dish with chopped cilantro, let it stand under a lid for 10 minutes. You get a juicy tasty turkey meat in an excellent sauce.
