Flatbread is one of the oldest foods on earth. They are mentioned in the Bible, Homer’s Iliad, the Odyssey and other works. Flatbreads
were baked by various peoples, from Indians to Bedouins. They could be fresh and muffin, they were cooked on fire, in ashes, in a tandoor, in an oven. Flatbreads were eaten with first and second courses, instead of bread, as an independent dish with honey, berries, cheese.
The shape and size of flatbreads were also different: round, square, oval, large, small. In some countries there is still a tradition of giving flatbreads a certain shape, which has a symbolic meaning.
Let’s tell you how to cook a flatbread on kefir
.
Ingredients:
- Kefir – 250 ml;
- Salt – ½ tsp;
- Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp;
- Flour – 350 g;
- Leavening agent – 1 tsp;
- Cheese – 200 g.
Preparation of kefir cakes:
In a bowl with kefir pour salt, pour in vegetable oil and mix thoroughly. Pour the flour and baking powder into the kefir, knead a soft and elastic dough.
Quickly knead the dough with your hands on a table sprinkled with flour. Divide the dough into 8 equal balls.

Roll out the dough into 20 cm tortillas
. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Spread the cheese around each flatbread.

Place a second flatbread on the cheese circle, seal the edges with a fork.
Make a hole in the middle of the flatbread

Place the flatbread in a frying pan in hot vegetable oil, fry on both sides until golden.
